Week 9 Highlights – Sacrifice Throws and Bottom Guard

Welcome back, Gracie Barra Centennial community! Week 9 of our curriculum is here, packed with exciting techniques and learning opportunities for students of all ages and levels. Let’s dive into what’s in store for this week:

Tiny Champions and Little Champions 1:

In Class A, our youngest warriors will focus on escaping front bear hugs and executing body lock takedowns, while in Class B, they’ll refine basic takedown grips, unbalancing techniques, and explore sweeps from the bottom guard.

Little Champions 2 and Juniors:

Class A will concentrate on escaping front bear hugs over the arms with hip throws, while Class B hones in on takedown grips, unbalancing methods, and inside hook takedowns. Ground techniques will cover sweeps and submissions from the bottom guard.

Fundamentals Class:

For our adult students, self-defense takes the spotlight this week. Class A will delve into blocking punches from the turtle position and recovering guard, complemented by pendulum sweeps and straight armbars from the closed guard during ground techniques. In Class B, we’ll focus on defending punches from knee-on-belly, transitioning to turtle, and regaining guard, along with mastering back takes and triangles from the closed guard.

All Levels Class and Advanced:

Transitions to guard or sacrifice throws will be the focus, alongside ground techniques handpicked by our professors. Every class will conclude with specific training and drills to reinforce the week’s lessons.

Safety is more than a principle; it’s the cornerstone of our practice. In Jiu-Jitsu, safety intertwines with every movement and decision, reminding us to prioritize control, technique, and mutual respect. By prioritizing safety, we create an environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive without unnecessary risks.
