4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, our training is guided by more than just technique—we train with purpose. Purpose keeps us focused, helps us grow, and connects each movement to something greater. Whether you’re mastering your first throw or escaping from back control, every rep has meaning.

🔥 This week’s BJJ Focus Sessions will dive into:
✅ Hip throw setups
✅ Submissions from the back take

🔥 Tuesday at 6 PM – Women’s Self-Defense Class: Learn how to defend against a headlock and safely transition to the ground with control.

🧠 Word of the Week: Purpose

In Jiu-Jitsu, purpose fuels progress. It’s the intention behind every technique, every class, and every round.
✅ Purpose drives consistency
✅ Purpose connects training to real-life confidence
✅ Purpose transforms movement into mastery

This week, we challenge our students to train not just harder—but with clear purpose.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Developing Awareness & Confidence

📍 Focus Areas: Guard recovery, body lock takedowns, back escape basics

✅ Self-Defense: Distance management & head cover block + body lock takedown
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Grappler’s stance and posture
✅ Ground Technique: Back escape using shoulders on the ground
✅ Specific Training: Understanding turtle and back control positions

These techniques help our youngest students build body awareness, self-protection instincts, and early coordination.

Little Champions 2: Real-World Defense & Back Escapes

📍 Focus Areas: Headlock escapes, pulling to guard, turtle recovery

✅ Self-Defense: Standing headlock escape with punches
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Pulling to the guard with control
✅ Ground Technique: Instructor’s choice—back/turtle escapes
✅ Specific Training: Safe recovery positions from the back

This week builds confidence and positional knowledge, especially in high-pressure self-defense scenarios.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1): Recovering Guard & Building Control

📍 Focus Areas: Headlocks, guard recovery, back escape transitions

✅ Self-Defense: Escape from standing headlock and transition to armbar
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Recovering guard from front and rear turtle positions
✅ GB1 Drill: Guard recovery + submission transitions
✅ GB1 Talking Point: The Jiu-Jitsu of Gracie Barra

These lessons are perfect for beginners learning to control their space and respond to pressure safely.

Adult All Levels (GB2): Hip Throws, Turtle Escapes & Mount Recovery

📍 Focus Areas: Hip throw setups, advanced turtle escapes & submissions

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Hip or hand throw variations
✅ Ground Technique: Bridge escape from back/turtle + transition to mount
✅ GB2 Drill: Technical mount recovery + finishing control

These advanced transitions help students build flow and link techniques, especially for competition or rolling strategy.

🔥 Tuesday at 6 PM: Women’s Self-Defense Class

This week’s focus:
💥 How to defend a headlock
💥 Transition safely to the ground
💥 Apply control with confidence

✅ No experience necessary
✅ FREE for all women throughout March
✅ Empowering, supportive environment
