Week 5 – Mastering Standing Strikes, Sacrifice Throws, and Bottom Guard

Welcome back to another exciting week at Gracie Barra Centennial! Here’s what’s in store for Week 5 of our Gracie Barra Curriculum:

Tiny Champions and Little Champions 1:

  • In Class A, our young warriors will focus on distance management and defensive strategies, including how to cover their heads and execute a body lock to take the back.
  • In Class B, they’ll learn the mechanics of the one-hand shoulder throw. On the ground, they’ll practice the sit-up sweep from closed guard.

Little Champions 2 and Juniors:

  • Class A students will master escaping headlocks on the ground
  • Class B will delve into the intricacies of the one-hand shoulder throw from the knees.
  • On the ground, Professor will guide them through sweeps and submissions tailored to their skill level, with Juniors specifically focusing on pulling guard and executing a tripod sweep.

Fundamentals Class:

  • Adults in Class A will refine their self-defense skills, learning how to block punches from closed guard and seamlessly transition into an armbar. Ground techniques will include sweeps like the two-feet pull and the waiter sweep.
  • In Class B, they’ll continue honing their defensive maneuvers, focusing on blocking punches and distance management. On the ground, they’ll explore the tripod sweep from closed guard or transition to an outside hook sweep if needed.

All Levels and Advanced Classes:

  • Students in all levels class will dive into sacrifice throws or pulling guard techniques, followed by ground techniques handpicked by Professor.

Each class will conclude with targeted training and drills to reinforce the week’s lessons.
