Week 5 at Gracie Barra Centennial – The Power of Kindness

Word of the Week: Kindness

This week at Gracie Barra Centennial, we’re focusing on Kindness — one of the most powerful traits we can develop both on and off the mats. Kindness in Jiu-Jitsu means more than being polite; it’s about building others up, helping your teammates improve, and showing respect to everyone who walks through our doors.

When we train with kindness, we create an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and encouraged to grow. Whether you’re helping a new student with their technique, congratulating a teammate on their promotion, or simply showing patience during drills — every act of kindness strengthens our team.

This Week’s Curriculum Breakdown

Tiny Champions:
Distance management + headlock cover block + body lock takedown

Little Champions 1:
Distance management + headlock cover block + body lock takedown + back escape

Little Champions 2:
Standing headlock escape with punches + back or turtle escapes (instructor’s choice)

GB1 (Adults Fundamentals):
Escape from ground headlock + turtle guard

Community Focus: Treats for Troops

In the spirit of giving, Gracie Barra Centennial is proud to once again participate in Treats for Troops!
We’re collecting leftover Halloween candy to send to our service members as a small gesture of appreciation.
Students and parents can drop off candy donations at the front desk throughout the week — every contribution helps us spread a little sweetness and gratitude to those who serve.

Celebrate with Us!

This week, we’re also celebrating Professor Junior’s birthday!
We’re thankful for his leadership, guidance, and the positive example he sets every day. Be sure to wish him a happy birthday when you see him on the mats!

Kindness in Action

Kindness is one of the key pillars of the Gracie Barra philosophy. It reminds us that true strength isn’t just about how hard we train — it’s about how we treat others. Let’s all find ways to bring more kindness to our teammates, families, and community this week.
