4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, we are committed to helping students of all ages develop discipline, skill, and confidence through structured training. Week 3 focuses on guard top control, foot sweeps, self-defense strategies, and transitioning into dominant positions.

We’re also introducing our first official Women’s Self-Defense Class on Tuesday at 6 PM! This class will teach how to defend against punches and transition to ground control, providing essential skills for real-life self-defense scenarios.

Additionally, our 30-minute BJJ Focus Sessions this week will cover:
✅ Double leg takedown setups
✅ Passing guard sequences

And this week’s Word of the Week is Integrity—a key value in Jiu-Jitsu and in life.

🗣 Word of the Week: Integrity

Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. In Jiu-Jitsu, integrity means:
✅ Training with honesty—committing to the process, even when it’s tough
✅ Respecting your training partners—practicing with control and fairness
✅ Applying Jiu-Jitsu values outside the gym—being disciplined, trustworthy, and consistent

Whether on the mats or in life, integrity builds strong character and long-lasting success.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Learning Control & Balance

📍 Focus Areas: Self-defense, takedowns, and guard passing

Young students will work on:
✅ Self-Defense: Push break falls and technical lifts
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Foot sweep takedown
✅ Ground Technique: Opening the guard, over guard pass, and mount control
✅ Specific Training: Guard top control

These foundational movements help children develop better balance, coordination, and confidence in their ability to escape and control positions.

Little Champions 2: Advancing Takedown & Guard Passing Skills

📍 Focus Areas: Stand-up takedowns, self-defense, and guard top control

Building on their skills, Little Champions 2 will focus on:
✅ Self-Defense: Distance management, body lock takedowns, and back takes
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Body lock and outside hook takedowns
✅ Ground Technique: Instructor’s choice of guard passing
✅ Specific Training: Developing control in top positions

These techniques strengthen movement coordination and teach students how to transition effectively in real-life situations and Jiu-Jitsu sparring.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1): Mastering Guard Passing & Defensive Transitions

📍 Focus Areas: Escapes, guard top techniques, and fundamental self-defense

Beginners will work on:
✅ Self-Defense: Escaping from strikes and transitioning into takedowns
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Safe posture and opening the guard
✅ GB1 Drills: Guard passing sequences and control maintenance
✅ GB1 Talking Point: The GB Uniform—why consistency in training matters

This week’s lessons help students establish strong fundamental movements for both self-defense and competition scenarios.

Adult All Levels (GB2): Advanced Guard Passing & Takedown Setups

📍 Focus Areas: Leg grab takedowns, guard top control, and advanced movement strategies

Advanced students will sharpen their technical skills through:
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Leg grab setups and finishes
✅ Ground Technique: Passing the guard with control and efficiency
✅ Specific Training: Maintaining dominant top positions

By refining these techniques, students gain confidence in controlling the fight and setting up submissions or positional advantages.
