Week 2! Headlocks, Hip Throws and Side Control

The GB1 Curriculum class will begin with techniques for escaping standing headlocks, executing rear takedowns, performing technical mounts, and applying armbars. The focus will then shift towards escaping side-mount and moving into closed guard. This week’s drill will focus on side control, and specific training will also concentrate on that position.

For the Gracie Barra Kid’s program, we will focus on push defense, developing a strong base, and executing technical lifts. After the self-defense portion, the kids will learn a ground technique, specifically a side-mount escape, to improve their grappling skills.

This word of the week is Brotherhood. As practitioners, we share a unique bond that extends beyond the mats. It’s a bond that’s built on respect, trust, and mutual support. It is about building a community of like-minded individuals who share a common passion. So next time you step onto the mats, remember that you’re part of a brotherhood that extend far beyond the gym.
