Week 2: Clinch & Holds, Foot Throws, and Escaping Mount

This Week at Gracie Barra Centennial: Week 2 of the Curriculum

Welcome back to another exciting week at Gracie Barra Centennial! As we dive into Week 2 of our curriculum, we have a lineup of techniques and lessons designed to enhance your jiu-jitsu journey. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store for each of our classes:

Tiny Champions (3-4 years old) and Little Champions 1:

  • In Class A, our youngest champions will focus on maintaining distance and covering their heads in case of a push.
  • In Class B, they will learn the headlock takedown (hip throw) while controlling the head. For ground techniques, they will work on transitioning to mount from side control.

Little Champions 2 and Juniors:

  • Class A will concentrate on defending against round kicks and executing a double leg takedown.
  • In Class B, they will practice the hip throw while controlling the head. For ground techniques, they will learn basic escapes from mount and knee on belly positions.

Fundamentals Class:

  • In Class A, adults will learn self-defense techniques such as escaping from a double lapel grab and executing an outside hook takedown, finishing with an armbar. Ground technique will focus on escaping from mount.
  • Class B will cover escaping when someone grabs your neck, executing a body lock takedown. Various methods for escaping mount and knee on belly will be explored in ground technique.

All Levels and Advanced Classes:

  • Participants will delve into foot throws and ground techniques chosen by our professor, including submissions and escapes from mount and knee on belly. Specific training and drills will conclude each session.

🗣️Word of the Week: Discipline

Discipline is the foundation of jiu-jitsu, instilling a mindset of consistency, dedication, and focus. It teaches us to persevere through challenges, maintain control in stressful situations, and respect our training partners. By embodying discipline on and off the mats, we cultivate a mindset that not only strengthens our jiu-jitsu but also positively impacts our lives beyond the academy.

We look forward to seeing you on the mats this week as we explore these techniques and embody the spirit of discipline in our training. Let’s continue to grow and learn together as a community!

See you on the mats!
