Week 2

Published on

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, Jiu-Jitsu is about more than just technique—it’s about building habits that shape who we are. In Week 2, we focus on side control escapes, takedowns, and how to stay composed and effective in tough positions.

🗣 Word of the Week: Discipline

Discipline is the foundation of progress. It’s what brings us to class when motivation fades and pushes us to improve when things get hard.

In Jiu-Jitsu, discipline means:
✅ Showing up even when you’re tired
✅ Staying consistent through ups and downs
✅ Following technique with focus
✅ Respecting the process, your instructors, and your partners

Discipline off the mats leads to excellence on the mats—and in life.

🥋 Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1

📍 Focus: Movement, base, and defense

  • Self-Defense: Push defense + keeping base

  • Ground Technique: Side control escape → recover guard

  • Specific Training: Side mount escapes

Little ones are learning how to move with intention and get back to safety.

🥋 Little Champions 2

📍 Focus: Confidence under pressure

  • Self-Defense: Push defense + break fall + pedal kicks + ready stance

  • Stand-Up: Outside hook takedown

  • Ground Technique: Side control escapes (instructor’s choice)

  • Specific Training: Side mount

We’re helping kids build calm reactions and strong frames under control.

🥋 Adults Fundamentals (GB1)

📍 Focus: Escaping from bottom with control

  • Self-Defense: Escape side headlock → rear takedown → technical mount → armbar

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu:

    • Escape side control → recover guard

    • Side control escape when opponent blocks hip/head

  • GB1 Drill: Side control escape → overhook guard pass → side control (repeat)

  • GB1 Talking Point: The Red Shield

Learn how to defend, recover, and stay composed in compromised positions.

🥋 Adults All Levels (GB2)

📍 Focus: Advanced transitions from side control

  • Self-Defense: Escape rear headlock → forward takedown → outside hook

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu:

    • Escape side control to turtle

    • Double leg takedown from turtle

  • GB1 Drill: Escape to turtle → takedown → side control

  • GB1 Talking Point: The Red Shield

We’re linking escapes with re-attacks to take back control.

🎯 BJJ Focus Sessions (30 mins)

This week’s specialty training includes:
✔️ Hip/hand throws
✔️ Submissions from side control

Perfect for improving timing and control during takedown and ground transitions.

💪 Women’s Self-Defense – Tuesday @ 6 PM

✨ Escape from rear headlock → outside hook takedown
✨ Managing distance and standing up safely
