Week 16

Published on

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, Jiu-Jitsu is more than self-defense—it’s about showing up for others. In Week 16, we’re sharpening escapes from mount and knee-on-belly positions while embracing the mindset of service: giving our best effort for ourselves and our teammates.

🗣 Word of the Week: SERVICE

In Jiu-Jitsu, service shows up in small but powerful ways:
✅ Offering a hand to help someone up
✅ Being a reliable training partner
✅ Training with focus and intention
✅ Supporting others in their progress

When we serve our team, we all rise together—on and off the mats.

🥋 Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1

📍 Focus: Mount escapes + learning to fall safely

  • Self-Defense: Front break fall → rocking chair → technical lift

  • Ground Technique: Mount escape to recover guard

  • Specific Training: Mount or knee on belly

Kids gain confidence escaping from tough spots and transitioning to safer positions.

🥋 Little Champions 2

📍 Focus: Explosive takedowns + mount escapes

  • Stand-Up: Double leg takedown with grips

  • Ground Technique: Instructor’s choice – mount/knee on belly escapes

  • Specific Training: Mount or knee on belly

Students refine takedowns and focus on transitioning out of pressure with purpose.

🥋 Adults Fundamentals (GB1)

📍 Focus: Recovering guard + controlling transitions

  • Self-Defense: Rear bear hug escape under the arm → hook the leg → outside takedown

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu:

    • Mount escape using bridge

    • Elbow escape + guard recovery

  • GB1 Drill: Open guard → pass → mount → elbow escape to guard

  • GB1 Talking Point: The GB Attendance Card

This week highlights defensive awareness and staying calm under pressure.

🥋 Adults All Levels (GB2)

📍 Focus: Countering pressure with technical escapes

  • Self-Defense: Rear bear hug over the arms → leg hook → leg lock

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu:

    • Mount escape → take the back

    • Knee-on-belly escape → transition to open guard

  • GB1 Drill: Guard pass → knee on belly → escape to open guard

  • GB1 Talking Point: The GB Attendance Card

Advanced students will chain escapes and counters into smooth transitions.

🎯 BJJ Focus Sessions (30 mins)

This week we’re locking in:
✔️ Foot throws
✔️ Escaping mount and knee on belly

Drill, refine, and reinforce core escapes with focused reps.

💪 Women’s Self-Defense – Tuesday @ 6 PM

What we’re covering:
✨ Rear bear hug escape (over the arms)
✨ Leg hook to takedown
✨ Leg lock finish + mount escape

No experience needed. Supportive environment, empowering skills.

Let’s lead through service—by helping our teammates grow, supporting each other’s journey, and putting in the work every class.

👊 See you on the mats!
