Week 14

Published on

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, Week 14 brings a refreshing challenge: all classes will be No-Gi! This means students will train without the traditional kimono, focusing more on grips, body control, and movement. It’s an exciting way to sharpen technique and build a deeper understanding of leverage and positioning.

Word of the Week: Humility

In Jiu-Jitsu, humility isn’t weakness—it’s strength in disguise. When you train, you’ll tap and learn. You’ll lose and grow. You’ll get better because you accept there’s always more to learn.

Through humility, we:
✅ Embrace our weaknesses
✅ Show respect to our partners
✅ Listen to our coaches
✅ Keep an open mind to new techniques

On the mat, being humble builds trust and fosters progress. Off the mat, it teaches us to be better people.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1

📍 Focus: Building control, staying calm in dominant positions

✅ Self-Defense: Standing headlock escape
✅ Ground Technique: Side mount transitions
✅ Specific Training: Side mount

Our youngest students are learning to stay composed while improving transitions and positional control—without the Gi!

Little Champions 2

📍 Focus: Top control, strong base, and No-Gi movement

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Grappler’s stance + posture
✅ Ground Technique: Side mount (bottom to top)
✅ Specific Training: Escapes and control from side mount

Kids will enhance spatial awareness and gain confidence navigating real-life scenarios in No-Gi.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1)

📍 Focus: Escaping bad positions and advancing to dominant ones

✅ Self-Defense: Escape from ground headlock to turtle + armbar
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Side mount control and transitions
✅ GB1 Drill: Escape side control → guard recovery
✅ GB1 Talking Point: Master Carlos Gracie Jr.

No-Gi training helps refine your ability to use body mechanics over clothing-based grips, deepening your skillset and understanding.

Adult All Levels (GB2)

📍 Focus: Side control dominance, guard recovery, and submission chains

✅ Self-Defense: Headlock escapes + transition to technical mount
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Escapes, passes, and recovery from side control
✅ Specific Training: Side mount
✅ GB1 Talking Point: Master Carlos Gracie Jr.

Upper-level students will dive into movement-based techniques, finding control without relying on grips.

BJJ Focus Sessions (30 min)

🎯 This week’s emphasis:
✔️ Hip throws (No-Gi variation)
✔️ Submissions from side control

These short, intensive sessions are designed to polish essential techniques in a No-Gi environment.

Tuesday at 6 PM – Women’s Self-Defense Class

This week’s FREE class includes:
➡️ Escaping headlocks
➡️ Side control escapes
➡️ Fundamental No-Gi movement

Perfect for beginners and all fitness levels. No experience needed—just show up and feel empowered.
