Week 13: Standing Strike, Sacrifice Throws, and Bottom Guard

Welcome to another thrilling week at GB Centennial, where the excitement of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu meets top-notch instruction! This week, we’re excited to unveil a diverse range of techniques tailored to suit every skill level. Whether you’re a Little Champ, a member of our GBK Juniors program, diving into fundamentals with GB1, or mastering advanced moves in GB2, there’s something special waiting for you on the mats.

Little Champs Program:
Our young warriors in the Little Champs class will focus on essential self-defense techniques. They’ll master escaping from a standing Rear Choke and perfect the art of recovering guard from the Turtle position. Additionally, they’ll be introduced to the sit-up sweep, a foundational maneuver in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In Class B, students will dive into the intricacies of the One Hand Shoulder Throw and explore submissions from the Guard Bottom position.

GBK Juniors:
In our GBK Juniors sessions, students will sharpen their Closed Guard techniques. They’ll practice the Closed Guard Sit-up sweep and the One Hand Shoulder Throw in both Class A and B. Instead of the usual Recovering Guard from Turtle, students will be taught a unique sweep and submission handpicked by our expert instructors. The session will wrap up with specialized training exercises designed to enhance their skills.

GB1 Fundamentals:
For our GB1 Fundamentals classes, the week begins with learning how to effectively block punches from the Closed Guard, refining clinch techniques, and mastering the triangle choke. Students will progress to the sit-up sweep and the Kimura lock from the Closed Guard position. Later in the week, the focus shifts to distance management, knee shield, and spider guard positions. An exciting addition to the curriculum includes mastering a sweep from the spider guard. Classes will conclude with specific training drills to reinforce the skills learned.

GB2 Advanced:
In our GB2 Advanced class, students will explore intricate techniques, including smooth transitions to the guard and a selected sacrifice throw. They’ll also learn to execute an armbar from the Closed Guard, take the opponent’s back from this position, and perform an omoplata sweep utilizing the lapel. The session will cover a hook sacrifice throw, enhancing students’ repertoire of advanced moves.

Word of the Week: Fun

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fun plays a crucial role in our training. It’s not just about mastering techniques; it’s about enjoying the journey and having a blast on the mats. Here’s why fun is essential:

  1. Motivation: When training is enjoyable and engaging, students are more motivated to come to class, practice regularly, and push themselves to improve.
  2. Creativity: Fun encourages creativity and experimentation, allowing students to explore new techniques and approaches to Jiu-Jitsu.
  3. Bonding: Sharing laughs and enjoying the training experience together fosters a sense of camaraderie among teammates, strengthening the bonds within our Jiu-Jitsu community.
  4. Stress Relief: Jiu-Jitsu is a fantastic way to unwind and de-stress after a long day. Fun-filled training sessions provide a mental escape and leave you feeling rejuvenated.

We’re thrilled about the week ahead and can’t wait to see you on the mats, ready to learn and grow in your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey!
