Week 13: Gracie Barra Centennial Curriculum Update

Welcome to Week 13 of the Gracie Barra Centennial Curriculum! We have an exciting week planned, packed with new techniques and valuable lessons for all our students. Here’s what we have in store for each class:

Tiny Champions (3-4 years old) and Little Champions 1

Class A: Our young champions will learn how to escape from a standing rear choke. This essential self-defense technique teaches them how to react quickly and effectively in a dangerous situation

Class B: The focus will shift to the one-hand shoulder throw, a fundamental judo technique that helps kids understand leverage and balance.

Ground Technique: Throughout the week, they will work on recovering guard from the turtle bottom position, developing their ability to regain a dominant position on the ground.

Little Champions 2 and Juniors

Class A: Students will learn how to defend punches from closed guard, clinch, and finish with a sit-up sweep. This sequence combines self-defense with a powerful sweeping technique.

Class B: The focus will be on performing the one-hand shoulder throw from the knees, which teaches control and technique at a closer range.

Ground Technique: The professor will guide them through various attacks and sweeps from the bottom guard, enhancing their offensive capabilities from a defensive position.

Fundamentals

Class A

Self-Defense: We will cover blocking punches from closed guard, clinching, and finishing with a triangle choke. This sequence integrates defensive and offensive techniques to neutralize threats effectively.

Ground Technique: The sit-up sweep from closed guard will be our main focus. If this sweep doesn’t work, we will transition to a kimura submission, providing a follow-up attack option.

Class B

Self-Defense: Managing distance from closed guard, using a knee shield, executing an upkick, and performing a technical lift will be the main components. These techniques help control and create space in a defensive situation.

Ground Technique: Spider guard control and sweeps will be the focus, teaching students how to maintain control and execute sweeps from a unique guard position.

All Levels and Advanced Classes

Sacrifice Throws and Transitions: Students will work on sacrifice throws or transitions to guard, practicing high-level techniques that involve giving up position to gain a more advantageous one.

Ground Technique: The professor will choose the focus for the ground technique, tailored to the class’s needs and skill levels.

Training and Drills: Each class will finish with specific training and drills to reinforce the techniques learned and improve overall conditioning and technique application.

🗣️Word of the Week: Fun

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fun is an essential aspect of our training. It’s not just about mastering techniques; it’s about enjoying the journey and having a blast on the mats. When we have fun, we stay motivated, build camaraderie, and create a positive learning environment. Fun helps us embrace the challenges, celebrate small victories, and keep coming back for more. Remember, every obstacle is a chance to learn, adapt, and grow stronger. Let’s keep the spirit of fun alive as we train hard and enjoy every moment on the mats!

We look forward to an incredible week of training and growth. Don’t forget to reserve your classes on the ZenPlanner App!
