Week 13 at Gracie Barra Centennial – Humility on the Mats

Word of the Week: Humility

At Gracie Barra Centennial, humility is at the heart of Jiu-Jitsu. On the mats, it means recognizing that learning never stops—no matter your belt rank or experience level. Every student, from our Tiny Champions to our black belts, teaches us something. Off the mats, humility inspires us to listen more, respect others, and approach challenges with an open mind.

This week we encourage everyone to train with humility: celebrate progress without ego, learn from every roll, and always show gratitude for your teammates.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1

  • Moves of the Week: Standing Strike, Guard Transitions, Sacrifice Throws

  • Focus: Building confidence while learning how to move with control and respect.

  • Talking Point: How staying humble helps us become better teammates.

 Little Champions 2 & Juniors

  • Self-Defense: Standing Rear Choke Escape 2

  • Jiu-Jitsu Techniques: One-Hand Shoulder Throw, Guard Recovery from Turtle Bottom

  • Specific Training: Guard Bottom

  • Mindset Focus: Using humility to stay calm, learn from mistakes, and encourage others.

  • Self-Defense: Blocking Punches from Closed Guard + Clinch + Triangle Choke

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Sit-Up Sweep & Kimura from Closed Guard

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Spider Guard Control & Sweeps

  • GB2 Drill: Spider Guard Control + Opponent Bullfighting/Posturing + Closed Guard

Why Humility Matters

Humility allows us to keep learning, stay coachable, and respect everyone we train with. By practicing humility, we create a safe, positive, and motivating space for every student.
