Week 12

Published on

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, we don’t just train hard—we also train with heart. This week’s Word of the Week is Gratitude, a powerful reminder to appreciate our training partners, our progress, and the opportunity to grow on the mats.

Word of the Week: Gratitude

Jiu-Jitsu is a journey—and we don’t walk it alone. Every roll, every lesson, and every challenge is a chance to grow, thanks to our teammates and coaches. Practicing gratitude means:

✅ Thanking your partner after a round
✅ Appreciating your body and effort
✅ Valuing feedback from instructors
✅ Staying humble and supportive

Gratitude strengthens not only our community, but our mindset too.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Awareness & Escape

📍 Focus Areas: Back defense, positional control

✅ Self-Defense: Standing rear choke escape
✅ Ground Technique: Back take from turtle top
✅ Specific Training: Back control and transitions

These lessons build fundamental awareness, helping our youngest students understand leverage and timing.

Little Champions 2: Attack & Control

📍 Focus Areas: Hip throws, attacking from the top

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Hip throw, hooking the shoulder
✅ Ground Technique: Instructors’ choice – attacks from back or turtle
✅ Specific Training: Positional dominance

As kids get more advanced, they’ll learn to chain together takedowns and positional attacks.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1): Back Takes & Choke Setups

📍 Focus Areas: Rear attacks and transitions

✅ Self-Defense: Escaping rear bear hug over the arms → rear takedown → side mount
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Back takes from turtle → seatbelt grip → clock choke
✅ GB1 Drill: Clock choke → transition to mount → escape from mount
✅ GB1 Talking Point: The Equipe GB

Students will develop confidence in offensive transitions and submissions from dominant positions.

Adult All Levels (GB2): Strategic Control from the Back

📍 Focus Areas: Advanced transitions and rear submissions

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Foot throws
✅ Ground Technique: Back or turtle – submissions and transitions
✅ Specific Training: Timing, control, and pressure passing

This week challenges students to maintain control and finish from the back with fluidity.
