Week 12! Foot throws and taking the back!

Welcome to our weekly blog posts! In this post, we will provide an overview of the techniques and drills that will be covered in each of our classes. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, we have something exciting planned for everyone. Let’s dive into the details!

GB1 Class: In our GB1 class, we will focus on fundamental techniques and escapes. We will start by learning how to escape from a front bear hug position, an essential skill for self-defense situations. Once we have mastered this escape, we will progress to taking the back from the turtle position. This technique is crucial for gaining a dominant position over an opponent. To reinforce our learning, our drill this week will include practicing clock chokes, side-mount control, and transitioning to the mount from side control. These exercises will help us improve our control and submission skills on the ground.

Advanced Class: For our advanced class, we will concentrate on stand-up techniques and throws. This session will involve foot and leg throws, which are effective for taking down opponents and gaining an advantageous position. Following our stand-up work, we will shift our focus to recovering guard from the turtle position. Guard recovery is an important skill for maintaining control and defending against opponents. To wrap up the class, we will engage in specific training exercises chosen by our knowledgeable professor. This portion will allow us to apply our skills in practical scenarios and further refine our techniques.

GB Kids Class: In the GB Kids class, we prioritize self-defense skills and age-appropriate techniques. Our self-defense portion will revolve around learning to escape from a standing rear choke, providing our young students with the tools to protect themselves if needed. Building on that, we will delve into the turtle position and explore techniques for taking the back of an opponent from this position. These skills will enhance their positional awareness and give them an advantage in a grappling situation. Finally, we will conclude the class with some fun and challenging specific training exercises designed to keep the kids engaged and excited about their BJJ journey.

At GB Martial Arts, we offer a comprehensive range of BJJ classes designed to cater to students of all levels and ages. Whether you’re seeking self-defense knowledge, physical fitness, or a competitive edge, our classes will help you achieve your goals.
