Week 11

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, respect is at the heart of everything we teach. It’s more than just bowing before you step on the mats—it’s about honoring your training partners, yourself, and the art of Jiu-Jitsu.

Word of the Week: Respect

Respect in Jiu-Jitsu means:

✅ Trusting your training partners
✅ Valuing everyone’s learning journey
✅ Practicing humility whether you win or lose
✅ Showing gratitude for the opportunity to train

Respect creates a safe, positive environment where everyone can grow and thrive.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Mastering Guard Top Skills

📍 Focus Areas: Guard passing, balance, and pressure

✅ Self-Defense: Jab + straight punch
✅ Ground Technique: Bullfighter guard pass
✅ Specific Training: Guard top control and passing

Our youngest students work on strong posture, safe guard openings, and confident movement from the top.

Little Champions 2: Control Through Passing

📍 Focus Areas: Timing entries, balance, and guard passing

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Foot sweep
✅ Ground Technique: Bullfighter guard pass
✅ Specific Training: Pressure passing and maintaining top position

Drills teach students how to stay calm and balanced while moving past their opponent’s legs.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1): Passing & Finishing

📍 Focus Areas: Guard passing with pressure, smooth transitions

✅ Self-Defense: Blocking the hook punch + hip throw + straight armbar
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Passing from knees with two hands on the belt + knee slide guard pass
✅ GB1 Drill: Open guard → pass guard → transition to mount → armbar
✅ GB1 Talking Point: The GB Legacy

This week we connect defensive movement with immediate counterattacks.

Adult All Levels (GB2): Leg Grabs and Top Control

📍 Focus Areas: Leg grabs, pressure guard passing

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Leg grabs (stand-up and self-defense focus)
✅ Ground Technique: Guard top control and passing
✅ Specific Training: Chaining guard passes for control and submissions

Students work on efficient entries, guard passes, and top submissions.
