Word of the Week: Charity
This week we focus on giving—on and off the mat. Charity in Jiu-Jitsu looks like sharing knowledge with newer teammates, offering a great round, and creating a culture where everyone grows together. Small acts of support compound into big progress.
What We’re Training This Week
Tiny Champions (3–4) & Little Champions 1 (5–7)
-
Self-Defense: Safe falling, stand-up-in-base, stranger awareness.
-
Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Guard retention games, partner balance drills.
-
Talking Points: “Helping a partner is how champions train.” Remind them that cheering for teammates is charity in action.
Little Champions 2 (8–12)
-
Self-Defense: Front headlock awareness and escape pathway.
-
Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Knee-cut pass basics, side-control hold and transition.
-
Talking Points: Give one tip per round to your partner. Explain how sharing helps you remember the technique more clearly.
Adults GB1 (Fundamentals)
-
Self-Defense: Standing headlock defense into body lock control.
-
Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Single-leg takedown entries, knee-slice pass, side-control stabilization, and mount transition.
-
Talking Points: Drill with intention. Offer partners precise grips and steps they can copy; that generosity lifts the whole room.
Adults GB2 (Advanced)
-
Self-Defense Integration: Positional awareness under pressure, safe disengage.
-
Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Counter-wrestling to front headlock series, knee-cut to reverse-knee shield responses, mount attacks (cross-collar and armbar chains).
-
Talking Points: Share your A-game sequence. Then help a teammate troubleshoot theirs. Teaching reveals gaps and upgrades your timing.
CompNet In-House Prep: This Saturday
Get tournament-ready in a friendly, structured environment. We’ll run live brackets with qualified refs, award medals, and—if sign-ups pop—we may even bring food trucks. You’ll practice:
-
Timed matches under CompNet rules
-
Mat awareness, scoring, and strategy
-
Coach corner communication
Why join? It builds confidence, exposes blind spots, and sharpens pacing before the next big event. Reserve your spot in Zen Planner under “Events.”
Judo for Jiu-Jitsu: Reserve in Zen Planner
Our Thursday 7:00 pm segment blends clean entries with safe landings so your takedown game translates directly to BJJ:
-
Foot-sweep combinations to ground control
-
Crash-pad reps for commitment and confidence
-
Grip-fighting sequences you’ll actually use in rolls
Spots fill quickly—book in Zen Planner to save your space.
BJJ Focus Sessions & Women’s Self-Defense
-
BJJ Focus Sessions: Small-group drilling with targeted feedback. Bring one question or problem area; leave with a fix you can use the same day.
-
Women’s Self-Defense (GBF): Practical scenarios, boundary setting, and leverage-based escapes. Supportive pace, skill-first instruction.
Reserve both in Zen Planner → Classes/Events.
How to Get the Most from Week 11
-
Arrive early. Use 5–10 minutes for movement prep and grip-fighting reps.
-
Share one tip per round. Teaching cements your understanding.
-
Log your rounds. Note what scored, what stalled, and one adjustment to try next class.
