Week 10

4 min read

At Gracie Barra Centennial, courage is a value we cultivate every time we step on the mat. Whether you’re facing a new technique or overcoming self-doubt, Jiu-Jitsu is a daily lesson in bravery, persistence, and resilience.

🗣️Word of the Week: Courage

Courage in Jiu-Jitsu means:

✅ Showing up even when you feel uncertain
✅ Pushing past physical and mental limits
✅ Trusting the process, even when progress feels slow
✅ Defending yourself or others in difficult situations

Each class offers a chance to develop this mindset both on and off the mats.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Escaping & Controlling from the Mount

📍 Focus Areas: Movement from bad positions, strong defensive habits

✅ Self-Defense: Back bear hug escape
✅ Ground Technique: Mount escape (arms pinned bridge)
✅ Specific Training: Escaping and controlling from mount or knee on belly

Our youngest students are learning how to stay calm under pressure and move with intention.

Little Champions 2: Escapes & Attacks from the Mount

📍 Focus Areas: Combative positioning and top control

✅ Self-Defense: Back bear hug escape over the arms
✅ Stand-Up Technique: Outside hook takedown variation
✅ Ground Technique: Instructors’ choice — mount attacks
✅ Specific Training: Controlling and finishing from mount

These drills build strong base, pressure, and confidence in top positions.

Adult Fundamentals (GB1): Submission Chains from Mount

📍 Focus Areas: Chokes, armbars, and submission chains from top

✅ Self-Defense: Standing guillotine and side headlock escapes
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: X choke + two collars choke + straight armbar
✅ GB1 Drill: Technical mount transitions + submission flow
✅ GB1 Talking Point: The GB Belt System

This week’s theme emphasizes control and finishing techniques while understanding the importance of belt progress.

Adult All Levels (GB2): Attacking from the Mount

📍 Focus Areas: Submission mastery and movement control

✅ Stand-Up Technique: Hip throws or hand throws
✅ Ground Technique: Attacks from mount or knee on belly
✅ Specific Training: Pressure passing and finishing combinations

Advanced students are refining their submission setups and pressure-based control.
