Mastering Jiu-Jitsu: A Look at Gracie Barra Centennial’s Curriculum for All Ages
At Gracie Barra Centennial, students follow a structured training program. Week 1 introduces key techniques in self-defense, stand-up skills, and ground control. No matter the level, students build confidence and improve their jiu-jitsu.
🗣️Word of the Week: Leadership
Jiu-jitsu teaches more than physical techniques. Leadership is about setting a strong example, supporting teammates, and working hard. This week, we encourage all students to lead by example.
Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1: Building Strong Foundations
📍 Focus Areas: Self-defense, body language, and guard control
Young students begin their journey with the basics. They learn:
✅ Self-Defense: Managing distance and using verbal commands to stay safe
✅ Ground Technique: Locking feet and holding the collar for control
✅ Specific Training: Practicing guard bottom positions
These lessons help children build confidence while having fun.
Little Champions 2: Advancing in Stand-Up & Ground Control
📍 Focus Areas: Judo grips, balance, sweeps, and submissions
As students progress, their training becomes more technical. This week includes:
✅ Stand-Up Techniques: Judo grips and off-balancing drills for takedowns
✅ Ground Technique: Controlling the guard with sweeps and submissions
✅ Specific Training: Instructor’s choice, focusing on advanced skills
By learning these techniques, students improve their agility and control.
Adult Fundamentals (GB1): A Strong Foundation for All Beginners
📍 Focus Areas: Escapes, guard control, and submissions
Adults new to jiu-jitsu start with essential movements. They practice:
✅ Self-Defense: Escaping from side mount and defending against punches
✅ Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Pulling to closed guard and executing a scissor sweep
✅ GB1 Drills: Training sequences that reinforce control
These skills create a strong base for future learning.
Adult Advanced (GB2): Elevating the Game with High-Level Techniques
📍 Focus Areas: Transitions, sacrifice throws, and guard mastery
Experienced students refine their techniques in Week 1. Training includes:
✅ Stand-Up Techniques: Moving into the guard and practicing sacrifice throws
✅ Self-Defense Techniques: Handling real-life situations with control

This level sharpens skills for competition and progression.
