As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of delicious food, festive gatherings, and busy schedules. At Gracie Barra Centennial, we believe this special time of year offers the perfect opportunity to strike a balance between enjoying the holiday and staying on track with your health and training goals. Here are some tips to help you make the most of Thanksgiving week!
🥋 1. Stay Active: Train Before the Feast
Our Thanksgiving week schedule includes an Open Mat on Thursday, November 28th, at 10 AM—the perfect way to start your holiday. Training not only helps you burn off calories but also boosts your energy and sets a positive tone for the day. Whether it’s drilling techniques, rolling with teammates, or simply breaking a sweat, you’ll feel more ready to tackle that Thanksgiving feast guilt-free.
🦃 2. Practice Mindful Eating
Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your favorite dishes, but mindful eating can help you savor every bite without overindulging:
- Eat slowly and take time to appreciate the flavors and textures of your food.
- Prioritize protein and vegetables on your plate before diving into the richer dishes.
- Portion wisely by starting small—you can always go back for seconds if you’re still hungry.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Remember, it’s okay to treat yourself! Moderation is key to enjoying the holiday without feeling sluggish or weighed down.
👨👩👧👦 3. Spend Quality Time with Family
Thanksgiving is about more than just food; it’s a time to connect with loved ones. Here are some ideas to make the most of your family time:
- Host a family workout: Share your jiu-jitsu moves or enjoy a quick outdoor activity like a walk or game of tag.
- Involve kids in cooking: Let them help prepare dishes—it’s a fun way to teach them about healthy eating and family traditions.
- Practice gratitude: Share what you’re thankful for around the table or write gratitude notes to each other.
🛠️ 4. Plan Ahead for the Week
Our adjusted schedule at Gracie Barra Centennial allows you to fit in training before or after the holiday:
- Monday, November 25th – Wednesday, November 27th: Regular classes
- Thursday, November 28th: Open Mat at 10 AM (no evening classes)
- Friday, November 29th & Saturday, November 30th: Closed
Use this time to stay consistent with your training and set a plan for the week. Staying active will help you feel your best, even during a busy holiday.
🌟 5. Reflect and Recharge
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on what you’re grateful for and recharge for the rest of the year. Take a moment to appreciate your jiu-jitsu journey, the progress you’ve made, and the community you’re part of.
We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy, family, and balance. Remember, your Gracie Barra Centennial family is here to support you on and off the mats.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃✨
We will see you on the mats!
