Mastering Week 7: Focused Techniques for Every Level at Gracie Barra Centennial

Published on

4 min read

As we enter Week 7 of the Gracie Barra Curriculum, our students, from the Tiny Champions to the most advanced practitioners, are in for an exciting and challenging set of lessons that will sharpen both their physical skills and mental resilience.

Tiny Champions (3-4 years old) & Little Champions 1

For our youngest warriors, this week is all about building a strong foundation in self-defense and basic Jiu-Jitsu techniques. In Class A, they’ll learn how to escape wrist grabs—a vital skill in self-defense situations. Moving into Class B, they’ll focus on mastering the single-leg takedown without grips, a fundamental takedown technique that emphasizes balance and precision.

On the ground, the Tiny and Little Champions will work on maintaining a strong posture in top guard. This position is crucial for controlling an opponent and setting up subsequent moves. They’ll also practice opening the guard by walking back, an essential technique for creating space and advancing position.

Little Champions 2 & Juniors

Our Little Champions 2 and Juniors will dive deeper into their self-defense training with a focus on wrist grab escapes in Class A. This technique not only enhances their self-defense repertoire but also builds confidence in their ability to protect themselves. Class B will see them refining the single-leg takedown without grips, a move that demands timing and agility.

On the ground, the spotlight will be on passing the guard—an integral part of transitioning from defense to offense in Jiu-Jitsu. This technique is key for controlling an opponent and advancing to a dominant position.

Fundamentals Class (Adults)

For our adult students in the Fundamentals class, this week is packed with practical self-defense techniques and effective ground game strategies. In Class A, you’ll start with managing distance—a critical skill for controlling encounters—before moving on to the front push kick and securing a body lock takedown that concludes in side control. On the ground, the focus will be on opening the guard on the knees, executing an over-the-leg guard pass, and mastering the half guard pass using the hook and hip elevation to transition smoothly into the mount.

Class B will further hone your ability to manage distance with the arm, followed by a sequence of jab techniques leading into a powerful double-leg takedown. On the ground, you’ll work on passing the spider guard, a move that requires both precision and finesse.

All Levels & Advanced Classes

In our All Levels and Advanced classes, the focus will be on mastering leg grabs and other advanced techniques. The ground techniques will be tailored by the professor, ensuring that each class offers a unique challenge designed to push your skills to the next level. We’ll wrap up every session with specific training and drills to reinforce what you’ve learned.

🗣️Word of the Week: Mindset

Mindset is more than just a word—it’s the key to unlocking your full potential in Jiu-Jitsu. A strong mindset allows you to push through physical and mental challenges, stay focused under pressure, and continue improving, even when the path gets tough. Whether you’re escaping a wrist grab, executing a takedown, or passing the guard, your mindset will determine your success. This week, let’s commit to cultivating a mindset that embraces growth, resilience, and a never-give-up attitude.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on the mats this week. Let’s work together to build not just our physical abilities, but also the mental fortitude that defines a true Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.
