Gracie Barra Centennial Week 7 Update | Perseverance, Leg Grabs & Guard Passing

Published on

4 min read

Welcome to Week 7 at Gracie Barra Centennial! Every week is another opportunity to grow stronger, build confidence, and become better than yesterday. This week’s curriculum focuses on important takedown and ground control concepts while our Word of the Week reminds students that progress comes from persistence.

Word of the Week: Perseverance

Definition: Perseverance means continuing to work toward a goal even when things are difficult.

One of the greatest lessons Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches is that success doesn’t happen overnight. Every student experiences challenges, difficult techniques, and moments where progress feels slow. The students who improve the most are the ones who continue showing up, learning from mistakes, and refusing to quit.

At Gracie Barra Centennial, we encourage our students to embrace challenges with a positive attitude. Every class is another opportunity to improve, and every obstacle is another step toward becoming a better version of yourself.

Perseverance on the mats builds confidence that carries into school, work, and everyday life.

Week 7 Curriculum

This week students throughout our programs will focus on two essential areas of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Leg Grabs

Students will learn how to safely execute and defend common leg grab techniques while improving balance, timing, and body positioning. These skills create strong foundations for effective takedowns and self-defense.

Guard Passing

Guard passing is one of the most important skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Students will work on maintaining posture, controlling their opponent, and advancing to dominant positions using proper technique instead of strength.

What Students Will Learn

Throughout the week, students will develop:

  • Better balance and coordination
  • Improved positional awareness
  • Stronger movement and pressure
  • Increased confidence during live training
  • Greater understanding of fundamental Jiu-Jitsu concepts

Our instructors will tailor each lesson to the student’s age and experience level, ensuring beginners and advanced students continue making progress.

Why Consistency Matters

Improvement in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu comes through consistent training. Each class builds upon the previous one, helping students develop confidence, discipline, resilience, and technical skill over time.

Whether your goal is self-defense, fitness, competition, or personal growth, showing up consistently is the key to success.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the mats for another great week of learning, training, and becoming better than yesterday.
