Week 15 at Gracie Barra Centennial – Integrity on and off the Mats
Welcome to Week 15 of training at Gracie Barra Centennial! This week we continue developing important self-defense and sport Jiu-Jitsu techniques, while focusing on the character value that ties it all together: integrity.
Word of the Week: Integrity
Integrity means doing the right thing—even when no one is watching. On the mats, it’s about training with honesty, respect, and focus. Off the mats, it’s carrying those same values into school, work, and daily life. At GBC, integrity builds trust, strengthens our community, and helps each of us grow as martial artists and people.
Tiny Champions
Our youngest students will be practicing:
-
Break fall variations
-
One-arm guard pass
These movements give them a foundation in safety, balance, and the basics of guard control.
Little Champions (GBK)
This week’s focus includes:
-
Self-Defense: Headlock Escape 2 (catching the head)
-
Guard Passing
These lessons build confidence against common scenarios while sharpening control and movement.
GB1 – Adults Fundamentals
Self-Defense:
-
Blocking the high round kick
-
Inside hook takedown
-
Straight footlock
Sport Jiu-Jitsu:
-
Opening the guard on the knees with both hands on the pants
-
Two-arm under-the-leg guard pass on the knees
This balance of self-defense and sport application strengthens both awareness and efficiency in training.
GB2 – Adults Advanced
Our advanced students will be focused on:
-
Stand-up techniques with leg grabs
-
Guard Passing strategies
These techniques combine timing, leverage, and control to develop more fluid transitions for competition and real-world application.
Train with Integrity
Every class this week is an opportunity to practice not just your skills, but your character. Integrity reminds us that who we are on the mats shapes who we are everywhere else.
