At Gracie Barra Centennial, our mission extends far beyond teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques. We strive to help our students develop valuable life skills that will serve them both on and off the mats. This week’s Word of the Week is Confidence.
Word of the Week: Confidence
Confidence means believing in yourself and your ability to learn, grow, and overcome challenges.
Confidence is not something that appears overnight. It is built through consistent effort, practice, and perseverance. Every time a student learns a new technique, attempts something difficult, or steps onto the mats ready to train, they are strengthening their confidence.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, students quickly learn that mistakes are part of the learning process. Challenges become opportunities for growth, and setbacks become valuable lessons. By continuing to show up and work hard, students develop the confidence to tackle obstacles both in training and in everyday life.
At Gracie Barra Centennial, we encourage our students to trust the process, embrace challenges, and take pride in their progress. Confidence earned through hard work becomes a foundation for success in school, at home, and in the community.
Week 4 Curriculum
This week our students will continue building their skills through the Week 4 curriculum, which focuses on important self-defense and sport Jiu-Jitsu concepts including:
Clinch and Holds
Students will develop their ability to establish control and maintain strong positions while staying balanced and safe.
Foot Throws
Foot throws help students understand timing, balance, and leverage while learning effective takedown techniques.
Mount and Knee-on-Belly Positions and Escapes
Students will work on maintaining dominant positions and learning effective escape strategies when placed in challenging situations.
These techniques help students improve their overall understanding of Jiu-Jitsu while reinforcing the importance of patience, discipline, and problem-solving.
Belt Ceremony Celebration
We are excited to celebrate the hard work and progress of our students at our upcoming Belt Ceremony.
Saturday, June 6
- Kids Belt Ceremony: 9:00 AM
- Adult Belt Ceremony: 10:00 AM
Students who have earned competition medals are encouraged to bring them so we can include them in our team photo and recognize their accomplishments.
Following the ceremonies, we will host a community BBQ and potluck. We invite everyone to bring a favorite side dish, dessert, or beverage and stay to celebrate with teammates, friends, and family.
Events like these highlight what makes Gracie Barra Centennial special: a supportive community that celebrates each other’s growth and success.
